Kamoinge Workshop Photography Exhibition from Harlem to Metuchen
May 8 @ 3:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Papillon & Company hosts an exhibition of images by Kamoinge Workshop – a collective of Black photographers, in our Metuchen store this May.
Kamoinge Workshop was established in New York City in 1963. The founders and members were deeply committed to photography’s power and status as an independent art form. Their dedication and vision to educate, empower and support each other changed the narrative of Black lives in America as depicted by mainstream media. https://www.kamoinge.com
Working Together: The Photographers of Kamoinge was on exhibit at The Whitney Museum from November 21, 2020 – March 28, 2021. I am delighted to present their work in Metuchen. https://whitney.org/exhibitions/kamoinge-workshop
The Harlem to Metuchen exhibition has three main events: 1) opening of the exhibition and gallery at the Papillon & Company store; 2) a virtual panel discussion with Kamoinge Workshop members; and 3) a photographers workshop with Kamoinge Workshop members.
The exhibition will be open to the public starting 4pm on May 8th – June 30 during store hours
