Downtown Metuchen Reopening Grant

The Metuchen Downtown Reopening Grant program is to assist businesses with reopening and the costs involved in doing so in a safe, timely, and effective manner. This program and funding has been designed to be flexible to business needs, and the application is simple and easy to fill out.

Some areas the program covers are protecting public health, storefronts and signage, online sales, and marketing, and outdoor dining and retail. Businesses may also identify special needs for funding they have and we’ll try to accommodate these requests as best as we’re able to.

Additionally, the Borough of Metuchen established an Outdoor Dining and Retail Program to permit use of various public and private spaces throughout the Borough for business use. This program is open to service and fitness businesses too. Options include expanded use of public sidewalks, public parking, public streets, and private spaces. If you are using this grant for outdoor activities (listed in the application in “Grant Activities,” #5) please apply for Borough approval BEFORE applying for the Metuchen Downtown Reopening Grant. DO NOT APPLY TO THE BOROUGH IF YOU ARE NOT DOING OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES.

Available Funding

Total funding available is $50,000 with a maximum award amount of $1,250. Given extraordinary financial need no matching funds are required.  Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis as they are submitted starting June 16, 2020. Funds will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis until all funds are exhausted.

In order to process payment promptly we will electronically transfer money to businesses using PayPal, Square, or Venmo. Please make sure you have an account set up on one of these platforms so that we can get money to you quickly. Half of funds will be provided at start of project and the second half after grant activities are completed.

Conflict of Interest

No one who applies for a grant will participate in the review of applications and/or award of grant monies.
